New DHS Registration Requirement for CANADIAN Visitors

Yes, as of April 11, 2025, Canadian visitors staying in the United States for more than 30 days are required to register with U.S. immigration authorities. This policy enforces existing laws that were previously applied inconsistently, particularly for Canadians entering via land borders .

Who Must Register

Canadian citizens aged 14 or older who plan to remain in the U.S. for 30 days or more must register unless they were already registered and fingerprinted during a prior visa application or received an I-94 admission record upon entry. Parents or legal guardians are responsible for registering children under 14 who will stay in the U.S. for 30 days or more .

How to Register

  1. Create a USCIS Online Account: Visit the USCIS website to create an account.
  2. Complete Form G-325R: Fill out the Biographic Information (Registration) form online through your USCIS account.
  3. Submit the Form: After submission, USCIS will issue evidence of registration. Individuals aged 18 or older must carry this proof at all times while in the U.S.

Note: Canadian nonimmigrant visitors are exempt from fingerprinting requirements .

Special Considerations for Land Border Crossings

Canadian visitors entering the U.S. by land who do not receive an I-94 admission record or an admission stamp in their passport upon entry must register within 30 days if they plan to stay beyond that period. It’s advisable to request an I-94 or an admission stamp at the port of entry to serve as evidence of registration .

Penalties for Non-Compliance

Failure to register can result in misdemeanor charges, fines up to $5,000, and imprisonment for up to six months. Additionally, individuals aged 18 or older must carry proof of registration at all times; failure to do so may lead to penalties .

Additional Requirements

If you change your address while in the U.S., you must notify USCIS within 10 days using Form AR-11, which can be submitted online or by mail .
